Virtual Reality is becoming mainstream. The community of OpenSimulator builders and the great builds they have made should be seen by this mainstream. Including the several million people that have Cardboard viewers as well as the soon to be release Oculus consumer version in Q1 22016. Unity3D now includes ability to output to the VR stereoscopic format for use with Oculus Rift headset. The presentation will build on how to move OpenSimulator builds to Unity, and show how to make thsse builds view-able with both the Rift and Google Cardboard.

SUNY Graduate Program: Designing Worlds for Professional Uses
Who is Irene Cruz? My presentation was connected to the Empire State College (SUNY) MALET Program.  Entering this program has been life-changing for me.  My initial career path was in Graphic Design and for many years I provided this service as a Consultant within companies such as; SONY, PEPSI, IBM and McGraw-Hill.  I enjoy the creative atmospheres, however, something was lacking.  That something was to be an Educator.  I have a long line of educators in my family and much like the movie, "My Cousin Vinny", I must have this abilty in "the blood."  So, I went back to school and became an Adult Educator for Higher Education.  Now it seems, I have another itche, and that is to mesh my creative ability with my teaching/training abilities.  Fully entering the VW (VLE) environments was what it took!  I am now completing my MA degree this month of December, 2015.  I am currently looking to pursue another career avenue that lends itself into Instructional Media Design for VLEs/MOOC and so forth.  I would love to connect with those who have the same passions and interests in an effort to produce a collaboration of ideas and products.   Please contact me through esolefllearning@gmail.com.  Thank you for this tremendous opportunity.

ESC INFORMATION - Taking advantage of the affordability, OAR uploads, repurposing, and export features now available with open-simulator-based islands, an emerging-technology graduate program at SUNY Empire State College developed a concentration in virtual-environment design. Here adult students are scaffolded through basic island construction, sharing work with course colleagues as they progress through a theory-and-practice based program where they conceptualize, construct, pilot, and evaluate islands to meet their own professional needs. After highlighting core elements of this program, the instructor will have four students share their island outcomes, challenges and victories as they created, piloted, and evaluated their own simulations, training and teaching environments. The islands developed include: a simulated video training environment for learning professional video production, an island for acculturating non-English speakers to technology and to American life, a university outreach through a multi-level experimental island for both English and science education for K12 students, and a digital learning and literacy environment for library patrons.

Thoughtfully constructed virtual world education simulations are a hit with students of all ages and contribute to increased learning outcomes. Still, until this type of learning simulation becomes more mainstream (and educational simulation content is included in textbook ancillary materials), early adopter educators need to create their own simulations or use the open license (or creative commons license) content created by others. To focus attention on the currently available as well as the “wish list” open license content needed, this panel includes presentations from college, K-12, and workplace instructors using and/or sharing virtual world learning simulation content.

Avatar Repertory Theater is the longest surviving live theater performance group in virtual worlds, since 2008. We have 200 performances under our virtual belts, ranging from full immersive stagings, such as Shakespeare's "The Tempest", Sophocles "Oedipus Rex" and "Alice in Wonderland", to small workshops and original plays. Our small, tightly-knit troupe consists of professional and community theater performers, programmers, sound engineers, avatar and theater designers, and playwrights. A few of us will talk about what we do and present a theatrical adaptation demonstrating some of the technical considerations of producing this ancient art in a fascinating new media.

Creating Architecture+Creating Magic in Open Sim
This presentation will highlight the work of 6th graders in Western New York. With the help of a NY State Department of Education Grant, the students were taken on a tour of the Darwin Martin House in Buffalo NY to learn about the principles of architecture of Famed Architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. The student then took these design principles into OpenSim and created their own amazing works of architecture and art.

Characters Matter: The Power of NPCs in Opensimulator
Opensimulator offers a vast and beautiful landscape for exploration. Until recently including interactive characters in a build was so time-consuming and complicated few builders bothered. A growing set of easy NPC tools make it possible for anyone to add unique characters to their builds without knowing anything about scripting. Nara Malone and Fred Beckhusen will talk about the tools they used in the Immersive Edge Hypergrid Story and how they are used in the Outworldz regions.

Walking Tour of a Game-based Sim built by Ann Cudworth
Limited Capacity seats available

This is a chance to "go backstage" on a game-based sim with Ann Cudworth, author of "Virtual World Design", and the soon to be published "Extending Virtual World Design". These 4 regions were built on the Kitely grid, to provide the book development team with content to make illustrations from. It is also the content that will be given out with "Extending Virtual World Design" when the book is published. Ann will take 15-20 people on a tour and explain how the design concepts were created, and how her team worked together to make it all work. She will also explain how these regions can be used as a template for designing learning games in the classroom.

Virtual Epidemiology Walkthrough
Come visit London's Soho District from 1854 to track down the source of a cholera outbreak. This educational activity provides the experience of John Snow's efforts to prove to the medical community that water enabled the spread of disease. Contagion theory was mostly dismissed by the medical community at the time in favor of miasma theory which held that air was the mechanism of transmission. This activity is used for an Honors Biology course at Ball State University. Developed by Stephen Xootfly who teaches the course and Kim Anubis of The Magicians. Holiday Machinima Night
 Holiday Machinima Night - Tuesday, December 22, 2015 @ 5pm SLT

Come spend an evening celebrating the holiday season at Machinima night on the AvaCon grid!

Have one to share?  Make your own machinima or find one you enjoy that is 3 minutes or less, and bring the URL with you. YouTube is the perfect place for posting your video or finding one (just be sure to get the URL in the "embed" code.

Getting there:

Never been to the Avacon grid?

If you already have an account on an OpenSim grid, log into your home grid, and hypergrid by entering this URL into your map (does not work from SL, must be on an OpenSim grid). http://grid.avacon.org:8002

If you do not have an account at an OpenSim grid, you can create an account for the AvaCon grid. Go to:  https://www.avacon.org/blog/avacon-grid/  (Please do this before the day of the machinima event to give us time to approve your account.)

Once on the AvaCon grid, open the map and look for the region called "Community." You will teleport into a central hub on the region. We will try to have a landmark giver at that location, or you can easily fly over to our parcel (we'll be the green dots on the map.)

Any questions?  Please contact any of the following people:
